Exactly twelve months I took the leap and purchased my first professional film camera. I used to think that shooting film was crazy, why would you revert back to something so old when digital cameras were available? When we’re used to everything coming so quickly it’s odd to think we might opt for something that might take a little longer, but friends it’s oh so worth it. My heart had been longing for a change, craving intentionality in my work and film has been just the push that I was looking for. Mid March Nikki sent me an email asking if I’d be willing to shoot an entire session on film. This was a first to for me and while I was hesitant I quickly agreed. It was now or never. I’m so thankful for dear friends that push we out of my comfort zone. Nikki is an amazing film photographer and she was just the patient soul I needed to get started.
Nikki and her husband, Matt, were visiting Charleston to celebrate their anniversary. Matt proposed in this beautiful city and it holds such a special place in their hearts. Just a few years ago they were sitting at that exact same table at Bin 152 as Matt asked Nikki to spend the rest of their lives together. Walking around the city and hearing their story was such a gift. After Matt proposed they walked to their favorite restuarant, Hanks, and had dinner. We traced their footsteps from that special night and I can’t help but hope that one day when they are talking about where it all begin they will pull out these photos and reflect on how far they’ve come. Nikki and Matt thank you so much for inviting me to document something so close to your heart!
